GROWING PAINS: MIKE GETS A JOB (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy series about the adventures of the Seaver family of Long Island, headed by psychiatrist dad Jason and reporter mom Maggie. In this episode, son Mike comes home excited about his new job as a salesman at Stereo Village. His parents are concerned to discover that he is working for Andrew Delish, a young man with whom Mike was once arrested. To Maggie's dismay, Jason allows Mike to keep the job, but both are happily surprised when they check up on Mike at work and find that he is performing well and taking his job seriously. In his first four days, Mike earns enough in commissions to buy gifts for all of his family members, and they are almost shocked by his considerate demeanor and commitment to his work. When Mike spills the details of his sales tactics to his father, however, Jason realizes that Mike is working as a con artist, a "bait and switch" salesman. He confronts Mike, telling him that people are more important than sales and that what he is doing is wrong. Initially Mike resists his father's advice. Shortly thereafter, however, Andrew asks Mike to fire his friend and co-worker Boner, whose honesty has been hurting sales. Mike begins to wonder whether his father's words may not have some merit after all. Includes commercials and promos. This program is closed-captioned.
