
ALL MY CHILDREN {MARK'S DRUG ABUSE; FAMILY CRISIS INTERVENTION} (TV)
Summary
One in this daytime serial about the lives and loves of the residents of Pine Valley, Pennsylvania. In this episode, Mark Dalton's sister Erica Kane and his ex-wife Ellen Chandler participate in a family crisis intervention at the rehabilitation center, during which they confront Mark with the consequences of his cocaine addiction. Plot developments include the following: Jesse Hubbard packs a gun in his coat and tells his wife Angie that he must meet with crime boss Otis tonight; Erica and Ellen are told by the counselor to speak to Mark specifically about how his addiction has affected their lives; a hostile Julie Chandler questions her father Ross as to why he was in St. Barts when he claimed he was in Chicago; Ross tells Julie he went there to stop Palmer from marrying Natalie but did not meet with success; Ross gets angry when Julie questions him further about his trip; Angie tries to dissuade Jesse from meeting with Otis, but Jesse says he must get the ring leader so he can bring down the whole baby-selling organization; as the intervention begins, Ellen tells Mark that he used to be a wonderful man, but has become a thief and a liar; Ellen says she got him a job to help him but instead he used her, stole money from the restaurant, and has caused her to neglect her own family; Ross storms into the meeting and angrily tells Ellen to leave with him immediately; Benny Sago tells Matt Connolly he should be kinder to waitress Robin McCall, who has sulked around the restaurant since Matt suggested she go to college and make something of herself; Ellen and Ross have a confrontation in which she tells him to leave the rehab center and he tells her she always chooses Mark over him; Ellen returns to the intervention and vents her rage upon Mark, telling him he is responsible for the destruction of her marriage to Ross; Jesse goes to a go-go bar to meet Otis, but his contact, Syd Weber, tells him Otis was arrested by a rookie cop; Ellen reminds Mark how his drug abuse cost them their unborn baby; Jesse returns home and tells a shocked Angela to come to the station with him and pretending not to recognize Otis in the line-up, claiming that Otis' release will lead them to the baby ring; Julie reads her diary to herself, noting that she saw Ross with "N"; housekeeper Myra Murdoch later comforts the distraught teen; an emotional Erica takes her turn confronting Mark, revealing the horror she felt when she found him stealing from her apartment to buy cocaine, as well as the time she had to go to the morgue to identify a body when he disappeared and was thought dead; Erica tells Mark she bought him a deed to a cemetery plot because he is intent on killing himself; Matt tries to apologize to Robin, but Robin crossly tells Matt she did not appreciate his inferring she was an "airhead"; Mark apologizes to Ellen and Erica, and recounts how he got into drugs and let his life fall apart; Mark breaks down and all three hug, say they love each other, and Erica and Ellen offer their help with his recovery; and after Mark and Ellen have departed, Travis Montgomery appears and tells Erica he was waiting for her and asks why she didn't tell him about her brother.
