HAPPY DAYS: FEARLESS FONZARELLI {PART 2 OF 2} (TV)
Summary
The second of two programs on this tape. One in the series of comedies about life in the 1950s. In this episode, Fonz goes for his record-breaking motorcycle jump and succeeds -- then makes a crash landing into Arnold's fried chicken stand. The crowds rush to him and pull him from the wreckage. Fonz appears to be all right, save for an injured leg. Jack Smith interviews "Fearless Fonzarelli." He says he feels like a "jerk" for making the jump, noting that one doesn't need to do such feats to appear cool. Afterward,an ambulance takes Fonz to the hospital to have his banged-up knee examined. At the hospital, Fonz learns that he has a torn cartilage and needs an operation. Later, doped up on sodium pentathol, Fonz talks with Howard, Richie, and a visiting nun as he prepares to go into surgery. Afterward, Fonz recovers at the Cunningham house, where he plunks himself on the family couch for the next week. Howard is tired of Fonz being on his couch while the doctor insists that the Cunninghams quit being so servile to him. The doctor insists that the Cunninghams force Fonz to get up and begin walking. Later, the Cunninghams try to dupe Fonz to walk but he quickly sees through their ruse. He admits that he's afraid to walk because they'll see him in pain, which is "uncool." As more days go by, Fonz continues to stay on the couch, barely speaking to the Cunninghams for trying to get him to walk on their terms. Richie comes up with a plan to invite a bevy of Fonz's girlfriends to the house. Fonz initially puts them off, but ultimately tries to walk and get his "cool into shape." Later, after he is healed, Fonz gets the Cunninghams to watch a televised excerpt from his jump. Fonz summarizes that he was "a nerd" to do it, even though the jump itself "sure was beautiful." Includes commercials.
