HILL STREET BLUES: GOODBYE, MR. SCRIPPS (TV)

Summary

One in this series of police dramas about the personal and professional lives of the officers of Hill Street Station, a precinct located in a run-down urban area. In this episode, Alan Wachtel, the attorney for a pornographic shop, wants police protection due to threats he has received; Officers Hill and Renko discover that Randolph Scripps, an independent candidate for mayor, is campaigning in a restricted area; and the funeral for the Robson child, who was shot by Officer Perez, becomes a political showcase for Chief Daniels. Since advanced polls show that Daniels is leading the mayoral race, he tells Furillo that the station will need a new chief, but Dennis Mahoney overhears these comments and vows to ruin the chief's campaign. At Murray's Wonderland, Wachtel wears a wiretap so the police can hear the arson threats made against the porn palace. And Furillo speaks with the son of Officer Perez about his problems in school due to the Robson child shooting. Other highlights include the following: Mahoney goes public with information about Daniels, and Furillo realizes the revelation will effect the mayoral race; Scripps is brought into the station on charges of demanding money from citizens for his campaign; Hill and Renko visit Doris Robson's apartment to drop off a check that the Hill Street officers are donating to the children's fund; and Scripps promises Goldblume he will stay out of trouble for the day in return for being permitted to hit the streets to sway any last-minute voters. In a surprise victory, Ozzie Cleveland wins the election and, during a press conference, Goldblume sees Scripps approaching Cleveland from behind. As the program concludes, Furillo pays a visit to the hospital to check on Perez's mental condition. Commercials deleted.
