ALL IN THE FAMILY: THE BUNKERS AND INFLATION {PART 1 OF 2} {FIFTH SEASON PREMIERE} (TV)

Summary

One in this comedy series about a working-class household presided over by the opinionated Archie Bunker. In this episode, the first in a four-episode "story arc," America's rampant inflation touches the Bunker household. Archie's concerns over the impending strike of his union threaten to overshadow Edith's carefully arranged anniversary party. While Archie and Mike are out, Edith opens a telegram from Archie's union announcing a strike date. At Gloria's insistence, Edith decides to postpone telling Archie the news until after the celebration. During the party, Edith attempts to assume a light-hearted manner, despite her concerns. However, Archie learns of the strike from a fellow union member and returns home intending to tell Edith, but he balks when he observes her apparent gaiety. Archie calls the guests together and presents Edith with a ring; overcome with emotion, Edith breaks down and reveals her news to Archie, but she is surprised to discover that he already knows. The two resolve to endure together the difficulties that the future may bring. Commercials deleted.
