IN PERFORMANCE AT THE WHITE HOUSE: SHOWSTOPPERS: A MUSICAL SALUTE TO BROADWAY (TV)

Summary

One in this series of programs featuring performances given at the White House. Presented from the East Room, this program features five leading ladies in a musical tribute to Broadway's most memorable show tunes. First Lady Nancy Reagan opens the program and introduces host Marvin Hamlisch. Included are performances by Dorothy Loudon (original cast of "Annie"); Jennifer Holliday ("Dream Girls"); Beatrice Arthur ("Mame"); Elaine Paige ("Cats" and "Evita"); and Mary Martin. Musical highlights include "Broadway Baby" and "Fifty Percent" (Loudon); "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going" (Holliday); "Broadway My Street" and "It Amazes Me" (Arthur); "Don't Cry for Me Argentina" and "Memories" (Paige); "A Cockeyed Optimist," "That's Him," and "My Heart Belongs To Daddy" (Martin); and others. President Ronald Reagan makes closing comments and shares personal recollections.
