ABC AFTERSCHOOL SPECIAL: DATE RAPE {SEVENTEENTH SEASON PREMIERE} (TV)

Summary

One in this series of dramas intended for young audiences. This episode features Samantha and Gary, high-school students who are dating each other. Gary is much more interested in showing his affection physically, while Sam likes to talk and seems hesitant to move too fast in the relationship. One night, Gary takes Sam to a secluded room in a factory building and rapes her. Sam is devastated, and friends start to worry when she doesn't show up for school or work. Sam finally reports the rape and seeks counseling at a women's center. Meanwhile, Gary has no idea that he has done anything wrong; in the words of Gary's father, "You don't rape dates. You rape strangers." Gary feels that because Sam went out on a date with him she was asking for sex. As Sam goes through the struggle of deciding whether to prosecute, Gary learns some important lessons. Commercials deleted. This program is closed-captioned.
