DEAR MOTHER {BLANDT TUSINDE ANSIGTER} (TV)
Summary
This documentary from Denmark touches on the universal
desire to know one's own biological roots. It
chronicles two Danish women in the final months of
their independent searches for their natural mothers.
Suzanne and Lene were both placed in adoption homes as
children and had already been searching for years prior
to the start of this production. When shooting began,
no one knew if either woman would actually realize her
goal. The program is real; none of the scenes are
re-enactments. The crew managed to capture the
authentic reactions of the people whom the two women
came across in their quest by withholding information
about the true purpose of their filming until the
shooting was completed. In Danish, with English
subtitles.
(This program received the Special Prize for
Documentaries, 1990 Prix Italia.)
