JIM HENSON HOUR, THE: "MUPPETELEVISION" AND "LIGHTHOUSE ISLAND" (TV)

Summary

One in this series of hour-long programs hosted by Jim Henson, which includes special presentations featuring an assortment of live-action Muppets and creatures. This program includes two half-hour segments: "Muppetelevision," with special guest Ted Danson, in which Kermit the Frog and his Muppet crew direct their own variety show from a TV studio; and "Lighthouse Island," a tale featuring fantasy characters from Jim Henson's Creature Shop. In the first portion, Kermit and Digit experience difficulties in the control room after Bean Bunny removes a satellite dish from the roof; Muppet fish and other marine animals sing "Splish Splash"; Rowlf the Dog, as the medieval medic Merlin, tells corny jokes while he treats some unusual patients; Ted Danson and his sweetheart take a cruise on the Pirate Cruise Line, where passengers must fight pirate crew members to get service; the Extremes, a Muppet girl-group, give an underwater performance of the song "Maneater"; and Clifford narrates "A Fish Story," performed by Danson and Muppet sea creatures. The second portion, "Lighthouse Island," concerns Zeb Norman (Makepeace), a young man who is searching for a very special wedding present for his bride-to-be, whom he has never met. Zeb travels to a remote coastal town in search of a novelty shop that was recommended to him. Ignoring the townspeople's advice, Zeb visits the shop, owned by Clara Bufford, and finds the perfect gift for his fiancée -- a beautiful pair of silver shoes. Clara, reluctant to part with the shoes, promises that he can have them only if he helps her retrieve an item that was stolen from her -- a magical pearl with the power to transform those who possess it into any imaginable shape.
