AMERICAN PLAYHOUSE: THE PLOT AGAINST HARRY (TV)
Summary
One in this series of dramas. Actor Mark Linn-Baker introduces this presentation of Michael Roemer's 1969 black-and-white film, which received its first public screening as part of the New York Film Festival 20 years after it was made. This wry comedy follows the uncertain fortunes of Harry Plotnick, a small-time Lower East Side gangster who is caught in the throes of a midlife crisis and is losing his edge. In a world of sleazy lawyers, down-and-out hoods, and marginal mob bosses, Harry despondently watches as his underworld empire is slowly bought out and his turf invaded by a younger and more ruthless breed. Reunited with his ex-wife, his grown-up daughters, and his brother-in-law, a Kosher caterer, Harry attempts to reconcile his dealings in organized crime with the middle-class standards of his family.
