MYSTERY!: CAMPION, SERIES 1: THE CASE OF THE LATE PIG {PART 1 OF 2} (TV)

Summary

Part one of a two-part program in this mystery anthology series. This program features mystery novelist Margery Allingham's sarcastic blueblood detective, Albert Campion, who is assisted by his very own observant "Dr. Watson," Magersfontein Lugg. In part one of "The Case of the Late Pig," Campion learns that a former schoolmate, whom he prefers to refer to as "the pig," has died. As he had a childhood dream of attending the bully's funeral and he has received a strange letter referring to the recently deceased, Campion decides to attend the burial. At the graveside, he sees another old classmate, Whippet, and a few other interesting characters, including a charming blonde, a talkative doctor, and a sinister old man. Three months later, Campion receives a call from the daughter of a police officer named Sir Leo Pursuivant. She informs the detective that her father wishes to see him right away about a murder. Leo wants to keep the death quiet until the case is solved since the murder occurred at his country club and he has strong feelings for the woman who runs the institution. Things become quite interesting when the following events occur: Campion recognizes the body of the recently deceased as "the pig," who was buried months before; the sinister old man, the talkative doctor, Whippit, and the charming blonde from the funeral all appear on the scene; the doctor informs Campion that "the pig" had a brother to whom he left all of his worldly goods, and that he believes that the recently departed may be this sibling; Campion receives another letter filled with riddles referring to "the pig"; and the body is stolen from the morgue and replaced with an actual defunct pig.
