HOMEFRONT: WHEN THE STARS BEGIN TO FALL (TV)
Summary
One in this series of dramas set in the small town of River Run, Ohio, that deals with some of the issues that Americans faced in the post-World War II era. The series focuses on three different families: the Catholic, working-class Metcalfs; the rich, industry-owning Sloans; and the Davises, an African-American family that works for the Sloans. In this episode, all of the couples in River Run are fighting. The Sloans and the Kahns decide to go on vacation at the same time and they are disgruntled upon discovering that they have been given adjoining cabins accidentally; both couples end up arguing instead of relaxing. Abe Davis is dismayed when Gloria questions her faith in God in a time of despair: she and Abe may have to close down their restaurant when they cannot secure money to pay the rent, and she has trouble accepting her son's departure. Meanwhile, Charlie and Caroline Hailey are locked in a bitter struggle when Charlie, who is determined to force Caroline to agree to a divorce, moves back to their home; Gina, however, offers Caroline a proposition she cannot refuse. Jeff and Ginger are both trying to get over their broken engagement, while Judy, who is tired of waiting for her secret admirer to call her, decides to go on a date with Jeff. The program features two newsreels with news of the day: "Sport Topics of the Day!" with commentary by Bill Stern about an unusual aviator, and "Adelaide Hawley's Lighter Side of the News," featuring a special parade in New Jersey.
