GREAT PERFORMANCES: DANCE IN AMERICA: THE PAUL TAYLOR DANCE COMPANY (TV)

Summary

One in this series of dance programs. In this program, the Paul Taylor Dance Company performs two pieces, each of which is preceded by narration written by Paul Taylor. The first piece, "Esplanade" (created in 1975), uses only running, skipping, walking, and jumping. The piece is choreographed to the E Major and D Minor violin concertos of J. S. Bach. The second piece, "Runes" (created in 1976) is subtitled "Secret Writings for Use in Casting a Spell," with music by Gerald Busby. (Presented under the umbrella of "Great Performances.")
