CENTRAL PARK {PART 2 OF 2} (TV)
Summary
Continued from T:28464. Part two of two. This Frederick Wiseman documentary features a broad montage of images and scenes shot during the course of a summer at the sprawling grounds of New York City's 840-acre Central Park. Wiseman's seemingly omnipresent camera observes a wide array of joggers, strollers, sleepers, and scenic views of the park and its wildlife. Included are LeVar Burton introducing an African dance group; Elizabeth Barlow Rogers, the president of the Central Park Conservancy, speaking at a picnic for park conservancy volunteers; spectators and mourners in attendance at a reading of names, and the display of the Living Quilt, in commemoration of those who died of AIDS; a police arrest and lockup at the Central Park Precinct; Midnight Oil singing "Beds Are Burning" as part of a rally for world peace; a meeting of the Park Conservancy Board and the small talk that follows the meeting; Mayor Ed Koch sounding the starting blast at the annual Road Runners' Corporate Challenge race; citizens speaking out at a council meeting over the proposed reconstruction of the Central Park tennis house; the kickoff of the annual Gay and Lesbian Pride Parade; and a frustrated Francis Ford Coppola shooting a scene with a restless group of children. Amid this colorful mosaic of park activities, the projects and ongoing efforts of Central Park's preservation, conservancy, and maintenance organizations are observed.
