FAMILY TIES: KAREN II, ALEX 0 (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy series about the Keaton family -- Elyse and Steven, two aging ex-hippies, and their conservative, materialistic children. In this episode, Alex, a college freshman, is hoping to pledge at the pompous Alpha Phi Epsilon fraternity. He prepares for the rush party, admitting proudly to his father that the brothers will judge his worth according to how beautiful his date is, what he wears, and what kind of car he drives. Alex calls the dance the most important night of his freshman year and panics after discovering that his date has broken her ankle and has to cancel. With nowhere to turn, Alex pleads with the family's new housekeeper, Karen, to accompany him, but she is adamant that she can't go. Arriving solo at the dance, Alex is sure his hopes to pledge are ruined -- until Karen shows up unexpectedly. When her reason for not wanting to go is revealed, the Keaton family finally discovers the truth about Karen's past. Commercials deleted.
