MYSTERY!: AGATHA CHRISTIE'S POIROT, SERIES 1: THE DREAM (TV)

Summary

One in this mystery anthology series. One in this series of Agatha Christie mysteries featuring Belgian dandy and private detective, Hercule Poirot.

In this episode, Hercule Poirot receives a letter from Benedict Farley, head of the Farley's Pies empire, requesting an appointment. Farley leads his workers in a very proper ceremony to celebrate fifty years of Farley's Foods, but clearly, the stern boss is not well-liked by his employees.

Suring the ceremony, his daughter, Joanna, runs off for a romantic tryst with a low-ranking employee, Herbert. Neither one of the lovers likes Farley, especially when Herbert breaks the news that he is losing his job because of his romance with Joanna. That night, Poirot has an odd meeting with Farley, who says he is having recurring dreams of suicide and that he believes someone is trying to kill him with hypnotism.

The next day, the secretary, Hugo Cornweather, finds Farley dead in his office from an apparently self-inflicted gunshot, just as Farley had foreseen in his dreams. Poirot and his assistant, Captain Hastings, as well as Chief Inspector Japp cooperate in investigating what they believe is a clever murder disguised as a suicide.

Poirot is filled with frustration when, after extensive interviews, the investigating team is no closer to an answer. Fortunately, when Poirot's secretary, Miss Lemon, leans out of her window to check the time on a nearby clock tower, Poirot realizes that the answer to Farley's murder lies with the window and the time.
