Summary

One in this series of live, late-night comedy/variety programs featuring topical satire. Tom Hanks hosts this fourteenth season premiere, with musical guest Keith Richards. Sketches include the following: an opening monologue by "nice guy" Hanks, who wanders the studio helping solve problems and lending moral support to others on the show, including Conan O'Brien, who portrays an anxious stable boy; Dana Carvey and Kevin Nealon in a "Hans and Franz" sketch in which the Teutonic trainers deny taking steroids and ridicule Olympic diver Greg Louganis; commercial parodies for the First Citiwide Change Bank; an ABC Campaign '88 presidential debate between candidates George Bush (Dana Carvey) and Michael Dukakis (Jon Lovitz), with an appearance by a child portraying vice presidential candidate Senator Dan Quayle; Hanks as "Mr. Short-Term Memory"; Hanks and Jon Lovitz as two self-aware losers attending their tenth high school reunion; a game show called "Jew, Not a Jew"; Hanks showing phony outtakes from his film "Big"; the "Pat Stevens Show" in which the former model (played by Nora Dunn) chats with first lady hopefuls Barbara Bush (Phil Hartman) and Kitty Dukakis (Jan Hooks); and a "Weekend Update" news segment with Dennis Miller. Richards performs "Take It So Hard" and "It's a Struggle" from his solo album "Talk Is Cheap." Includes commercials and promos.
