MIAMI VICE: FORGIVE US OUR DEBTS (TV)
Summary
One in this series of police dramas concerning Sonny Crockett and Ricardo Tubbs, undercover detectives for the Miami vice squad. In this episode, a man whom Crockett put in prison a few years ago for murdering a police officer is about to go to the electric chair. However, the district attorney won't allow Crockett any extra time to investigate a startling new piece of evidence: a priest has contacted the police to say that someone in his parish has confessed to the crime for which Frank Hackman is about to die. The D.A. has taken a pro-capital punishment stand in his political campaign and doesn't want to see a reversal so close to the election. With only a few days left before the execution, Crockett and his vice squad cohorts race to find out if there's any truth to the confession. Their investigation leads them to Gus Albierro, the man who testified to Hackman's intent at his trial. Albierro, who is now terminally ill, finally admits that he knows for a fact that Hackman is innocent because he was with Hackman at the time of the murder. Crockett finds another witness who corroborates Albierro's story, then goes to the governor to have the execution called off. When a relieved Crockett greets Hackman at the prison gates as he's released, he's disturbed to learn that all of his efforts were wasted. Commercials deleted.
