STEPHEN KING'S THE STAND: PART 4: THE STAND (TV)
Summary
The conclusion in this four-part drama based on Stephen King's best-selling novel about a deadly plague that escapes from a U.S. government lab, leaving only a chosen few survivors to take a stand against the forces of evil. In part four, Flagg runs Harold off the road and Nadine leaves him for dead. Continuing on by herself, Nadine encounters Flagg, who impregnates her -- turning her hair completely grey in the process. When he takes her back to Las Vegas she informs him that his kingdom is crumbling and takes her own life in order to avoid bearing his child. While Flagg had been able to track down Judge Farris and Dayna, he can't figure out who the third spy is. Dayna, who has discovered that Tom is the third, kills herself to keep from revealing his identity. Tom starts heading back to Boulder when the moon is full. In the meantime, Stu breaks his leg while trying to climb out of a chasm and the other three men proceed on to Vegas without him. Left on his own, Stu becomes sick with the flu and Mother Abigail tells him in a dream that he has to try to get out of the chasm. Luckily, Nick has been talking to Tom in his dreams and instructs him to go get Stu. Glen, Ralph and Larry are arrested and Glen is shot when he refuses to submit to Flagg. Ralph and Larry are brought to a public square where Flagg's people have gathered to see them dismembered. However, when Trashcan Man shows up with a nuclear bomb, the Hand of God intervenes, incinerating Flagg and all of Las Vegas, but only after God has granted mercy to those who seek it. After seeing the explosion and sensing that good has overcome evil, Tom and Stu head back to Boulder. Though Stu's condition worsens along the way, Nick guides Tom in nursing Stu back to health. They arrive home to find that Fran's baby has the flu. When, however, the doctor says that the baby is going to make it, and it turns out that Lucy is pregnant with Larry's child, the remaining survivors of the plague pray that humans can do better this time around. Includes commercials, promos, public service announcements, and an "ABC News Brief." This program is closed-captioned.
