Summary
One in this series of talk shows hosted by Tom Snyder. In this program, Snyder interviews writer Harlan Ellison and the members of the rock group Crosby, Stills, and Nash. At the program's outset, Snyder shares his memories of a recent trip to Northern Italy. He then converses with brash author Harlan Ellison, who has recently collaborated on a book entitled "Mind Fields" with Polish artist Jacek Yerka. Interview highlights include the following: Ellison refers to novelist Judith Krantz as a "creative typist" and dismisses her work as "crap"; reveals what he learned during an interview with actor Steve McQueen; recalls the time singer Barbra Streisand stole $18 from him; refers to radio disc jockey Howard Stern as a "transvestite, a thirteen-year-old girl"; explains why he dislikes computer bulletin boards; and why he has never written a sequel to any of his works. During the interview, Ellison is overwhelmed with gratitude when Snyder presents him with one of Yerka's paintings. Snyder is then joined by antique folkies David Crosby, Stephen Stills, and Graham Nash, who recently performed at the 1994 Pepsi-sponsored reprise of Woodstock. Highlights of this exchange include the following: Nash admits that the group liked the second Woodstock better because they were "completely stoned" at the first one; Crosby allows that he could never play guitar well while on acid; Stills comments on the fans at both Woodstock concerts; and Crosby comments on his recent television acting stint on "The John Laroquette Show." There are several "CNBC Newsbreaks" throughout the program, which consists of reporter Steve Gendel covering aspects of the O.J. Simpson murder trial, the 1994 crime bill, and Rwandan refugee camps.
