LATE NIGHT WITH CONAN O'BRIEN {ANDREW SHUE, JOYCE BROTHERS, STEEL PULSE} (TV)

Summary

One in this series of late-night talk shows hosted by Conan O'Brien. On this program, the guests include actor Andrew Shue, psychologist Dr. Joyce Brothers, and reggae group Steel Pulse. The program begins in the studio of "The Tonight Show," where Jay Leno is wrapping up his show from New York. Adam Sandler goes from that studio audience to O'Brien's studio, which is in the same building. Highlights include: O'Brien's monologue covers such topics as: President Bill Clinton's nominee for Supreme Court Justice, Roseanne Arnold filing for divorce again from her husband Tom Arnold, scientific studies that show margarine is more threatening to one's health than butter; next up is a film entitled, "Menage A Terror: The Tom and Roseanne Story," which stars O'Brien's sidekick Andy Richter in several parts; the first guest, Andrew Shue, chats about the big wedding which is going to occur on the season finale of "Melrose Place," being on the cover of "Entertainment Weekly" with the other male characters from the show, his organization called "Do Something" which helps solves problems in the community, and a former job he had as a substitute teacher in Africa and then in New York City; Stephen Lee appears as Chinese stand-up comedian, Wo Li Pai, who does his routine without speaking a word of English and afterwards is interviewed, with the help of his interpreter Chen Eng (Kevin Gee); the next guest, Dr. Joyce Brothers, talks about the possibilities of keeping an intense physical attraction to the same person for a lifetime, evaluates O'Brien's life and background -- as well as Shue's, and mentions a study with gorillas that has revealed information about human sexual behavior; and Steel Pulse, the world's most popular reggae band, performs the song "Let Freedom Ring." Includes commercials, promos, and public service announcements. This program is closed-captioned.
