Summary
One in this series of late-night talk shows hosted by Conan O'Brien. Highlights of this program include the following: at the top of the program, "scenes from the previous week's show" are introduced, presenting O'Brien as a suave, sadistic leading man in clips of an action picture bearing no resemblance whatsoever to the talk show; a regular bit called "If They Made It," which superimposes two photos to illustrate the probable progeny of celebrity couples -- in this case, actor Johnny Depp and model Kate Moss; Elizabeth Taylor and husband Larry Fortensky; talk show co-hosts Regis Philbin and Kathie Lee Gifford, figure skater Tonya Harding and criminal/husband Jeff Gillooly; a taped segment called "You Be the Host" in which O'Brien is seen shifting uneasily in his chair as actor/director Ben Stiller relates a long, tedious story, and the audience is given three choices as to how the host should handle the situation -- leading O'Brien to set his desk on fire to put an end to Stiller's wearisome droning. O'Brien's guest, David Letterman, the original host of "Late Night," discusses a recent visit to the NBC studio; compliments O'Brien on the quality and originality of his show; explains why he had bullet-proof glass installed in his old NBC office; comments on the success of his mother 's remotes from the Olympic Games in Lillehammer, Norway, on his current CBS show; relates a story about Johnny Carson's theft of his battered pick-up truck; and expresses surprise over the media circus surrounding his move to CBS. Additional highlights include a visit from "Billy Tyler," a sad little boy who received pet leeches from his estranged parents when his hamster ran away; and a performance by Z, a rock group fronted by Dweezil and Ahmet Zappa.
