JON STEWART SHOW, THE {LEEZA GIBBONS, ADRIAN PASDAR, BILL MAHER, WEEZER} (TV)

Summary

One in this series of late-night talk shows hosted by Jon Stewart. On this program, Stewart is joined by Leeza Gibbons, actor Adrian Pasdar, comic Bill Maher, and rock group Weezer. Before introducing his first guest, Stewart performs his monologue from a mechanical lift which rises or lowers depending on the reaction to his jokes; introduces the evening's house band, Esther Crow and Glenn Wilson, a septuagenarian accordion and bass duo; performs a sketch called "New Fox Pilots" which examines shows that are alleged to be forthcoming from the fourth network; and shows a tape of what supposedly occurs during the commercial breaks. The first guest is "Entertainment Tonight" co-host Leeza Gibbons. Highlights include: footage of an anonymous person pitching a quarter into the front of Gibbons's dress at an Academy Awards party; Gibbons commenting on the time she frightened her two-year-old son while she was dressed as a belly dancer; and her assertion that there are services which provide naked houseboys. Additionally, Stewart contends that her "ET" co-star John Tesh has an unusually large head, and quizzes Gibbons on which celebrities are dead or alive. Following this interview is the "No Money Playhouse" production of "Forrest Gump," which has Stewart manipulating Pez dispensers to tell the story of the gormless Gump. Actor Adrian Pasdar -- who performs as a transvestite in his recent film "Just Like a Woman" -- discusses a biblical film he recently made in Africa. Weezer performs "Undone - The Sweater Song." Comic Bill Maher comments on his novel "True Story"; the heady days of the 1980s comedy boom; and the current decline in the popularity of standup comedy. He describes his roundtable discussion television show "Politically Incorrect" as a "cocktail party thrown by a sadist." Weezer concludes the program with a performance of "Buddy Holly." Includes commercials.
