Summary

One in this series in which host William Friday, the president of the University of North Carolina, interviews successful people who reside in or hail from North Carolina. On this program, the guests are Frank and Tom Kenan, members of the charitable trust fund for the new Kenan Center on the campus of the University of North Carolina. Topics discussed include the following: who William R. Kenan, Jr., was and why this new building is dedicated to him; how the Kenans went about the process of building the center and the excitement of watching it start from the ground; the purpose of the center for students as well as the general public; the 155-seat dining room in the center, to be used for meetings, parties, and other functions; the history of the Kenan family and the things they have done to help the education process; the wide array of artwork that is on display on every floor of the building; how they view the state of the economy and the ways the center can help young people in the business world; training students at an early age to read and write; local business groups which are lining up to request use of the center for meetings or conventions; the Kenans' views on how to solve the problems of education and how to get young people interested in education.
