SHAKESPEARE: THE ANIMATED TALES: JULIUS CAESAR (TV)

Summary

One in this series of animated programs based on the writings of William Shakespeare. This program contains a condensed version of Shakespeare's tragedy, "Julius Caesar." It begins with Julius Caesar returning to Rome from Pompey, where he was victorious in defeating his enemies. Though Caesar is thought of as a great leader and ruler, some of his supporters decide that he has become too ambitious and that his death is necessary to protect the liberty and freedom of the citizens of Rome. The principal assassins of Caesar are Marcus Junius Brutus and Caius Cassius. After Caesar is killed, the Romans listen to the words of Brutus, who explains why the deed had to be done. He wins over the citizens of Rome, but his victory is short-lived. Soon after, Mark Antony, a soldier and politician, encourages the crowd to turn against Brutus and his conspirators by reminding them of all of the great things Caesar had done. Brutus and Cassius flee Rome, but quickly build up an army to fight against Mark Antony and Caesar's adopted son, Octavius, who await the battle that they know will end the dispute once and for all.
