POLITICALLY INCORRECT {SANDRA BERNHARD, CHRISTOPHER LAWFORD, JOHN LOFTON, BILL ZEHME} (TV)
Summary
One in this series of spontaneous comedy talk shows hosted by Bill Maher. Maher presides over a no-holds-barred forum whose members come from the worlds of politics, journalism, and entertainment in order to discuss current events -- no matter how controversial. In this program, Maher presents a monologue about current events in which he comments on the following topics, among others: the Balanced Budget Amendment; the position of the surgeon general; potential replacement players for baseball teams; and the O.J. Simpson trial. Then, Maher talks with actress/comedian Sandra Bernhard, actor Christopher Lawford, Christian conservative writer John Lofton, and writer Bill Zehme. First the guests comment on the concept of "class" in regard to the actions of Kurt Cobain's widow, Courtney Love. Then John Lofton, against the wishes of Maher, brings the conversation around to the loss of Christian morality. The conversation quickly erupts into an argument when Christopher Lawford refers to himself as a "rehabilitating Catholic." Maher attempts to take control of the situation, but winds up having to apologize for his use of adult language. In addition, Bernhard makes some interesting comments about God and women after becoming irate over Lofton's Christian commentary. Bill Zehme, on the other hand, finds himself becoming more of an observer than a participant in the discussion. Commercials deleted.
