BARBARA WALTERS PRESENTS THE TEN MOST FASCINATING PEOPLE OF 1995 (TV)

Summary

One in this occasional series of interview specials, hosted by Barbara Walters. This program looks at the ten most fascinating people of the year 1995, along with excerpts from previous interviews. The list of people consists of John F. Kennedy, Jr., tennis star Monica Seles, Oklahoma City bombing rescuer Dr. Rick Nelson, media mogul Ted Turner, philanthropist Oseola McCarty, comic actor Jim Carrey, politician Newt Gingrich, singer Courtney Love, actor Christopher Reeve, and former General Colin Powell. Highlights include: John F. Kennedy, Jr., discusses why he stepped into the spotlight after all the years of avoiding it, his new magazine called "George," and if he has any desire to be involved in politics; Monica Seles talks about the emotional scars left from the stabbing that happened during a match, and the thrill of coming back to the competitive level of pro tennis; Dr. Nelson describes the rescue of a fifteen-year-old girl who was trapped under the rubble after the Oklahoma City bombing; Ted Turner discusses why he got more satisfaction watching his Atlanta Braves win the World Series than making the monster merger deal with Time Warner; Oseola McCarty talks about how she became a rich woman without even knowing it by doing other people's laundry, and why she donated most of her money to the University of Southern Mississippi; Jim Carrey reflects on the passing of his father and what it is like to be the highest paid comedy actor in motion picture history; Newt Gingrich discusses the emotions he felt when he was elected Speaker of the House and why he turned to politics instead of following his main desire in life; Courtney Love talks about the suicide of her husband, Kurt Cobain, and why she simulates his death on stage during concerts; from his wheelchair, Christopher Reeve discusses the constant support from his family that kept him optimistic despite being paralyzed from the shoulders down after his horseback riding accident; and Colin Powell -- considered by Walters the most fascinating on the list -- talks about his regrets, if any, concerning his withdrawal from the presidential race, if the racial tensions in the world can be tamed, and the future of his political life. Includes commercials, promos, and public service announcements. This program is closed-captioned.
