WISHBONE: THE IMPAWSSIBLE DREAM (TV)

Summary

One in this children's series in which an intelligent canine named Wishbone imagines himself in a unique version of a classic tale that parallels the life of his owner, a youth named Joe.

In this episode, Joe is up against his nemesis, Damont, in a competition to see who can break the world's record for consecutive free throws. Joe is determined to do the impossible and shoot eighty-six baskets in five minutes. This reminds Wishbone of the story of Don Quixote which he tells by putting himself in the part of Quixote's sidekick, Sancho Panza. Don Quixote is an elderly man who spends most of his time reading books about the knights of medieval times. One day he decides to become a knight himself and seek adventures across the countryside. Though his family believes he is mad, Don Quixote is determined to revive the age of chivalry. He hires Wishbone to be his squire, and the two set off on their journey, during which Don Quixote battles what he thinks to be giants, but what in actuality are windmills. Meanwhile, Don Quixote's family want him to return home so they hire an expert to beat him at his own game.
