NEVER FORGET (TV)
Summary
This docudrama concerns the court case between Holocaust survivor Mel Mermelstein and the Institute of Historical Review (IHR), which claims that the Holocaust never happened. After Mermelstein writes to local and national media outlets about the Holocaust, he receives a response from the IHR, slandering him and others of the Jewish faith. He then seeks help regarding the response, but all the lawyers and Jewish organizations he contacts advise him to forget about it because the IHR is just seeking publicity. Finally, Mermelstein turns to William Cox, a lawyer who was recommended by his wife. At first, Cox refuses to take the case, but changes his mind because of Mermelstein's commitment to setting the record straight. While the trial is pending, Mermelstein receives hate mail from anti-Semitic groups, and his family becomes frightened. Mermelstein, therefore, decides to drop the case because of the stress on his family from the threats. Cox can't believe Mermelstein would let the issue disappear considering the determination he's showed. One night Mermelstein gets an anonymous phone call saying his personal Holocaust museum has been burned down. Later, thankful that the fire was a false alarm, his oldest son urges him to continue with the case against the IHR. At the deposition, Mermelstein is questioned by Richard Fusilier, the attorney representing the IHR. Fusilier uses Mermelstein's testimony against him and makes a strong case that the Holocaust never happened. At the trial, Mermelstein is put on the stand and he describes what he witnessed during the war and vows his promise to his father will never be broken. The court rules in Mermelstein's favor, but the IHR continues to claim publicly that the Holocaust is a fabrication by the Jewish race. Commercials deleted.
