ABC AFTERSCHOOL SPECIAL: TEENAGE CONFIDENTIAL (TV)
Summary
One in this series of dramas intended for young audiences. This movie chronicles the changes that a sixteen-year-old girl experiences, and the consequent tensions with her parents. Andrea is an average teenager with an itch to experiment and gain some independence from her parents, but a gross misunderstanding leaves a rift in her family. Each family member has a flashback on the events that led up to their misunderstanding, with different perspectives on the situation. The problems begin when Andrea dyes her hair bright green in an effort to achieve a new look and get the attention of a boy in school named Dante. Unfortunately, her father, Glen, takes her green hair as a sign of deep-rooted teenage rebellion. Andrea's ploy works, and she begins a romantic relationship with Dante. Even though her mother, Joan, assures Glen that Andrea's behavior is normal, he is suspicious of Dante's phone calls to their home. When Glen searches Andrea's room and finds incense, he is certain it is a sign of drug use, and he secretly hires a private investigator and taps the phones in their home. Meanwhile, Andrea's romance with Dante intensifies, and she grows nervous about the sexual aspect of their relationship. But when she goes to her mother for advice, Joan is preoccupied with work and fails to recognize the seriousness of Andrea's concerns. Events escalate, culminating in a situation that is embarrassing and upsetting for everyone, and Joan realizes that the source of their problems is a simple breakdown in communication. Includes commercials and promos. This program is closed-captioned.
