GUIDING LIGHT {ROGER RAPES HOLLY} (TV)

Summary

One in this long-running daytime serial about the residents of the midwestern town of Springfield. In this episode, Roger questions his wife, Holly, about her alleged affair with Ed. When Roger utters a remark that Holly finds outrageous and offensive, she slaps him and Roger hits her back. Highlights of this episode include the following: Alan resents Mike for being so tough during the cross-examination at the custody case, and vows revenge if he loses custody of Philip; Amanda, having rediscovered her love for the piano, tells her mother she wants to dedicate her life to music; Roger and Holly struggle violently, and he throws her onto the bed and rapes her; Professor Weinbaum is charmed by Amanda's promising musical talent and invites her to play at a recital that evening; following the rape, Holly absconds from the house and experiences flashbacks of her husband's terrifying actions; Amanda tries to cultivate Ben's affections with an invitation to her recital; and, as Alan talks to Philip about the custody case, Jackie wonders why he is filling the boy's head with visions of hatred towards Mike. The program concludes as Holly, seeking help and guidance, searches for Dr. McIntyre at the hospital. Commercials deleted.

(The title of this series was "The Guiding Light" on radio from 1937 to 1956 and on television from 1952 to 1977; in 1977 the title was changed to "Guiding Light.")
