Summary
The pilot for this comedy series set in New York City in which comedian Jerry Seinfeld plays himself. Humorous situations in his personal life are interspersed with brief stand-up comedy routines. In this pilot, Jerry's friend Laura is planning a visit, but he is unable to determine if her intentions are romantic or platonic. At Pete's Luncheonette, where Claire the waitress makes wisecracks, George asserts that Laura is using Jerry as a back-up beau. At the laundromat, George and Jerry debate the validity of "overdrying" one's clothes, and in a brief stand-up routine, Jerry laments laundry ads that tout the elimination of blood stains. Then, Kessler drops by Jerry's apartment and admits he has not left the building in ten years. When Laura calls and asks to spend the night at Jerry's home, he remains uncertain of her motives and sets up a mattress in the living room. Picking up Laura at the airport yields no clues about her nebulous motives, and upon settling in at the apartment, Jerry tries to decode her signals but he is utterly confounded. In the final stand-up segment, Jerry asserts that while women can be subtle, men are obvious about expressing their interest in a person. Commercials deleted.
