ELECTRIC COMPANY, THE {"EA," "TH"} (TV)
Summary
One in this series of children's programs designed to improve young people's reading skills. The series incorporates live action and animation to illustrate reading techniques. This program explores the use of the sounds "ea" and "th," and the words "nap" and "no" in several segments. Highlights include the following: an irate movie director begs an actress to remember her one-word line, "no"; Pandora the Brat sings about how she hates naps; a cartoon Martian discovers a huge obelisk that crumbles to reveal "ea"; a mad scientist yearns to teach a creature to read, but it prefers to eat; peanuts appear to move around by themselves, courtesy of stop-motion animation; "A Very Short Book" tells the tale of "The Princess and the Pea"; in a musical number, Morgan Freeman and Lee Chamberlin give thanks to the sound "th"; J. Arthur Crank ineptly sings the "Electric Company" theme; and a stone-age classroom discovers the uses of the period, question mark, and exclamation point. Includes a brief appearance by Bill Cosby.
