HAPPY DAYS: PASSAGES {SERIES FINALE} {PARTS 1 AND 2} (TV)

Summary

The finale in this series of comedies about life in the 1950s. In this two-part episode, Joanie and Chachi have split up, yet they are dating exact lookalikes of one another. As Joanie, Chachi, and their doppelgangers make small talk at Arnold's, the ex-lovers ultimately realize they are still passionately attracted to each other. The Fonz, meanwhile, tries to adopt an orphan named Danny, even though a rule forbids single parents. And Chachi decides to ask for Joanie's hand in marriage, and despite the shenanigans of Jenny Piccalo, Joanie and Chachi become engaged. And when the adoption agency declares that Fonzie cannot adopt young Danny, the orphan and the Fonz run away together.

Joanie and Chachi prepare for their upcoming wedding, and the Fonz is about to be charged with kidnapping. Fonzie returns young Danny to the adoption agency, and the two tearfully part ways. But Howard chastises the head of the agency, Mr. Hillary, for splitting up a potential father and son. On the wedding day, Marion is a nervous wreck as Al and his wife Louisa -- Chachi's mother -- arrive from Chicago. Suddenly, Mr. Hillary drops by with the news that Fonzie will be allowed to adopt young Danny. And, just in time, Richie and his wife Lori Beth arrive for the ceremony. In the Cunninghams' backyard, Joanie and Chachi exchange vows and cut the cake. As the program concludes, Howard offers a toast to "happy days," followed by a montage of clips from the ten years of the series.
