NANNY, THE: THE ROSIE SHOW (TV)

Summary

One in this clash-of-cultures comedy series about Fran Fine, a flamboyant, wisecracking Jewish woman from Queens employed as a nanny by the upper-crust widower Maxwell Sheffield of Park Avenue. In this episode, Fran is thrilled about attending "The Rosie O'Donnell Show," featuring guest Hugh Grant. Fran's loud wisecracks draw the attention of Rosie O'Donnell, who invites the nanny backstage and promptly asks her to appear in weekly segments about child care. Maxwell, unconcerned that Fran will be moonlighting, avoids speaking about a romantic relationship with his employee. Fran is a hit on the talk show, delivering a repertoire of jokes in her languid Queens accent. But soon the busy nanny has no time to spend at home, as she accepts jobs in commercials and joins Donald Trump at Elaine's restaurant. Maxwell, meanwhile, is too timid to confess his feelings for Fran. Late one night, Maxwell pretends to awaken from a nightmare and tells Fran about his dream with her grandma, Bubbie Sophie. In a parody of the dream sequence in "Fiddler on the Roof," Bubbie Sophie reveals that Fran will stay single, that Cece will wind up marrying Maxwell, and that the kids will become hooligans -- unless Fran quits "The Rosie O'Donnell Show." The program concludes with a parody of "The Dick Van Dyke Show," with Fran as Laurie Petrie, Maxwell as Rob, Cece as Sally Rogers, and Niles the Butler as Mel Cooley. Includes appearances by the parents of actress Fran Drescher. Commercials deleted. This program is closed-captioned.
