TOUCHED BY AN ANGEL: JACOB'S LADDER (TV)
Summary
One in this series about two angels, Monica and Tess, who help mortals who have lost their direction in life and their faith in God. In this episode, Monica gets her assignment confused and winds up being arrested in a drug bust and commited to a mental institution. Tess and Monica were supposed to meet in Jacksonville, Illinois, to help a kindergarten teacher with marital troubles, but instead, Monica travels to an address in Jacksonville, Florida, where police break in and find her holding a large bag of cocaine. When Monica claims she is an angel she winds up in a mental hospital, where she will be medicated to erase her delusions. But Monica appeals to public defender Jake Stone to prove that she is not insane, but competent to stand trial. As Jake works with Monica, he and a psychiatrist are impressed with her apparent sanity, and Jake begins to wonder if she could somehow actually be an angel. As his faith increases, he begins to see other angels, Sam and Tess. Meanwhile, Monica learns of Jake's haunting past in the Vietnam war, which caused him to push aside his religious beliefs. When Jake describes an angelic woman named Claire, whom he met in Vietnam, Monica realizes that he is speaking about her roommate from the mental ward, Claire, who also claims to be an angel. Both Jake and Claire describe a Vietnamese girl, nicknamed May Day, who seems to be the key to both their torment and their salvation. Monica becomes determined to help free both Claire and Jake of the memories and guilt that are constraining them. Commercials deleted.
