QUEEN OF THE STARDUST BALLROOM (TV)
Summary
This made-for-television movie concerns a woman's search for fulfillment after having been widowed. After her husband's death, Bronx housewife Bea Asher focuses her attention on opening and running a small shop, until a friend persuades her to step out for an evening of fun at the Stardust Ballroom, a place where many older singles gather. There, Bea meets Alvin, an affable mailman who becomes her dance partner, and eventually, her lover, despite the fact he is married. These events transform Bea as she reaffirms her self-worth and begins to re-examine her family's traditional expectations of her as a mother and widow. In several innovative musical scenes, Bea and Alvin pause and reflect on their feelings and thoughts in a handful of intimate musical soliloquies. And, once she is nominated, Bea ultimately tries to win the title of Queen of the Stardust Ballroom, with the nimble-toed help of her lover Alvin. Commercials deleted.
