JENNY HOLZER: ART BREAKS (TV)
Summary
This tape includes twenty-three segments, ranging from
six to eleven seconds in length, which feature the
evocative statements or "truisms" of artist Jenny
Holzer. The truisms appear in white capitals against a
black background. Eight of these segments feature
one-line truisms, beginning and ending with a colored
screen, while seven of the segments feature longer
truisms. The final eight segments feature truisms that
appear one word at a time, beginning and ending with a
fuzzy black-and-white screen. In these segments, a
man's voice enunciates the statement as it appears on
the screen. Examples of Holzer's truisms include:
"Abuse of power comes as no surprise," "It can be
helpful to think of them eating their favorite foods and
occasionally throwing up and getting bits stuck in their
noses," and "You are caught thinking about killing
anyone you want."
