NORTHERN EXPOSURE: I FEEL THE EARTH MOVE (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy/drama series about the colorful inhabitants of Cicely, a rural Alaskan town where native New Yorker Joel Fleischman establishes his first medical practice. In this episode, the people of Cicely excitedly prepare for the spring wedding of Erick and Ron, the proprietors of a local bed and breakfast inn. Only Maurice is troubled by the prospect of a same-sex marriage, and he determines that he will not attend the ceremony in spite of his close relationship with both Erick and Erick's mother Patricia. Maggie also senses the romance in the air as her relationship with Joel undergoes a metamorphosis. However, Maggie is concerned about the severe and inexplicable dizzy spells she has been suffering over the last few days. While Joel is pleased with his growing bond with Maggie, he is disturbed by Marilyn's new practice of daily journal writing. Every time that he sees Marilyn writing in her diary, he feels an overwhelming curiosity to read her private thoughts. Meanwhile, as the wedding approaches, problems begin to arise. Erick and Ron argue bitterly over details of the wedding. One of their major arguments concerns Ron's last minute decision to hire Holling as a caterer instead of a more upscale service nearby. Although Holling is initially thrilled to have the opportunity to cater such an important event, he soon becomes daunted by the prices of the gourmet foods, and changes the menu to accomodate his own budgetary constraints. Even Holling's co-chef, Eugene, eventually quits the catering job because he is so disgusted by the poor quality of the wedding meal. The night before the wedding, both Holling and Erick have panic attacks. Holling is suddenly embarrassed by the shabby meal he has prepared, and Erick shocks Maurice with the news that he is cancelling the wedding and leaving town. Maggie's situation also reaches a climax when she connects her dizzy spells with her growing feelings for Joel. However, on the day of the wedding, common sense returns and only a natural disaster is able to make Cicely pause in its celebration of Erick and Ron's wedding. Commercials deleted.
