MYSTERY FILES OF SHELBY WOO, THE: THE HIT AND RUN CASE (TV)

Summary

One in this series of children's mystery programs about a teenager named Shelby Woo, who tends to upset the police department and her grandfather as she engages her talents as an amateur sleuth. In this episode, Shelby takes a special interest in a hit-and-run case because her friend Detective Hineline is the suspect. Although Doug Zoates was knocked down by a hit-and-run driver, his injuries are minimal. But since he is a lawyer who specializes in defending accident victims, he plays up his injuries and plans to press charges once the police determines the driver's identity. To the surprise of the police, a videotape of the accident shows that Detective Hineline's car struck Zoates. Hineline and Shelby are sure that someone stole his car in an attempt to frame him. They determine that the culprit used a key rather than breaking in, and left a partial shoe print on the gas pedal in ink. Shelby deduces that there are three suspects with a motive -- Dale, a tattoo artist whom Hineline arrested for illegally tattooing minors; Matilda, a counterfeiter who was convicted by Hineline and just released from prison; and Zoates himself, who might have staged the entire accident. With help from her friends Noah and Cindi, Shelby investigates all three suspects. But Shelby's perceptiveness helps her recognize an important clue that unlocks the entire mystery.
