20/20: DILLEY SEXTUPLETS (TV)

Summary

One in this series of news magazine programs. Hosted by Diane Sawyer, this episode is about the famous Dilley sextuplets, the first surviving set of six offspring from one birth in the United States. Sawyer documents a day in the life of parents Becky and Keith Dilley in their Indiana home, just as the children's fifth birthday approaches. Sawyer observes how the house is run, in terms of cooking, cleaning, laundry, and extracurricular activities like dance class. A home video from May 25, 1993, shows the birth of the six children: Ian, Quinn, Julian, Adrian, Brenna, and Claire. Sawyer also discusses "Dilleytown," a clubhouse which Rosie O'Donnell helped the Dilleys build, and how the family celebrates Thanksgiving and Christmas. The Dilley sextuplets mark their fifth birthday at a roller rink. Sawyer discusses the role that fertility drugs play in creating multiple births, examining various quadruplets, septuplets, and a recently-born set of octuplets in America. Sawyer examines the "E.Q." (emotional quotient) of children born as part of multiple births. Finally, the Dilley children join Sawyer in the studio. Includes commercials.
