Summary
The first of two episodes on this tape. One in this satirical soap opera series about Mary Hartman, a housewife from Fernwood, Ohio. In this episode, Cathy brings Martha home to meet Standing Cow, who is waiting to die on the Shumway's kitchen table. George is very upset that Standing Cow wants to be buried in the ancient Indian burial ground in the backyard, but Martha is all for it. Fiona Foley stops by to visit Mary, and she is unconcerned that Mary is married and has had an affair with Dennis. However, Tom is not thrilled that Dennis's family is in his house. Merle plans to announce his candidacy for president as soon as his backwoods mother arrives to give the family a rustic, trusting image. Miss Adeline, as she is called, is not the sweet old lady he had hoped she'd be, and he tries to hide the "blunt, abrasive, hard-nosed, crude, and offensive character," as Wanda calls her. Oddly enough, the press loves her forthright image, and Merle goes ahead with his campaign after all. Commercials deleted.
