STRANGERS WITH CANDY: A PRICE TOO HIGH FOR RICHES {SECOND SEASON FINALE} (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy series that follows the exploits of Jerri Blank, a forty-six-year-old high-school freshman and self-described former "user, boozer, and loser." In this episode, Jerri becomes depressed after she learns that popular rich girl Melissa will not invite Jerri to her party unless she buys a pair of "Flairs," the expensive new sneakers that all the popular kids at Flatpoint are wearing. Jerri is invited to a party at her friend Orlando's house on the same night, but she is desperate to be accepted by the rich kids. Since she can't afford the sneakers on her own, she goes to see Mr. Jellineck for advice on raising some money honestly. Jellineck is saddened to tell Jerri that he doesn't know how people get money; he inherited his riches from a dead family member. He sends Jerri to see the Flatpoint High job counselor, but the woman tries to enroll Jerri in a pyramid scheme. Desperate, Jerri takes an after-school job at a local shoe store to make money. Jerri's boss tells her that if she makes enough sales during her first day, she may earn enough money to buy herself a pair of Flairs. Unfortunately, Jerri is a terrible saleswoman; when a customer in a wheelchair enters the shop looking for a new pair of sneakers, she offends him by shouting, "Well, how'd you wear out the last pair?" Orlando stops by the shop, pleading with Jerri to come to his party, but she tells him that she won't be happy unless she gets to "party with the rich kids." Jerri gets one last shot at raising her Flair money when Melissa herself stops into the store to pick up a new pair of Flairs for her party. Commercials deleted.
