RHODA: A NICE WARM RUT (TV)
Summary
One in this series of comedies about Rhoda Morgenstern, a strong-willed woman trying to cope with the problems of career, romance, and family in Manhattan in the 1970s. In this episode, Rhoda and Joe get Brenda a shower nozzle for her birthday and Joe invites her over to celebrate on the big day. However, Rhoda is angry, thinking Joe a "jerk" for allowing Brenda to keep depending on them, not letting her live a life of her own. Rhoda visits Brenda, encouraging her to be more independent, using her own example of having once gone off to live in Minneapolis. The next day, Brenda notes how she's taken Rhoda's advice by talking to a diverse range of people. She then reveals that she has decided to move to San Francisco, shocking Rhoda. Meanwhile, Joe is still fuming over the way Rhoda fights with him. He is also mad at Rhoda for causing Brenda to uproot her life. After yet more arguments, Joe and Rhoda reach a truce, and Joe says that Rhoda needs to tell Brenda her true feelings. Thus, Rhoda goes to Brenda, offering an apology before getting Brenda to admit that she doesn't want to go to San Francisco. The two then try to reach a mutual understanding, the boundaries of which are quickly blurred. Commercials deleted.
