TRIALS OF ROSIE O'NEILL, THE: THE REUNION (TV)

Summary

One in a series of dramas about the personal and professional life of Rosie O'Neill, a Los Angeles County public defender. In this episode, Rosie speaks with her therapist about going to her high school reunion. Later, Rosie worries about Jesse, a client charged with arson though he claims he was defending himself against a Molotov cocktail-wielding drug dealer in his neighborhood. Meanwhile, Rosie's old friend Judith Ann, nicknamed "Raggedy Ann," arrives in town and the two meet at the Biltmore bar. There, the women reminisce about the past as they prepare for the upcoming reunion. Then, another classmate, self-absorbed Broadway star Vicki Lindman, arrives, quickly taking over the bar with theatrical antics which anger Rosie. The next day, Rosie speaks with Jesse, who talks about how his neighbors cheered as he burned the crack house down. Rosie goes to speak with the neighbors, but none of them are willing to offer information or testify on Jesse's behalf. At the trial, Rosie questions suspected drug dealer Bobby Reeves on his curious behavior. Eventually, Jesse explodes in court, getting removed from the room. Later, Rosie discusses her hatred for Vicki with Kim, though she can't remember the fight's origins. That night, Rosie attends the twenty-five-year reunion with Judith Ann. During a bathroom break, Rosie runs into Vicki. There, the two women get into a spat, with Vicki accusing Rosie of stabbing her in the back by going to the prom with her ex-boyfriend. Later, Rosie has fun with old classmates Tobey and Madeline. However, Rosie later learns that one of their other classmates recently died from breast cancer, though Vicki reacts coldly to the news. Rosie argues with Vicki that there is nothing wrong with aging, and that they're becoming "fine wines." Realizing that the bar closes in fifteen minutes, Rosie and her friends sprint to get one last "zombie" cocktail. Also at the bar, Vicki sits quietly, brooding. Then, Tobey sings at the bar's piano. Vicki storms out after one final confrontation with Rosie. The next day, Rosie continues her defense of Jesse, wondering why the police response time was so slow. Rosie uses a defense of Jesse in which she claims that honest citizens must sometimes react with "justifiable passion" when the government doesn't respond to calls for help. Later, the jury is deadlocked, forcing Judge Cervantes to declare a mistrial. However, Rosie approaches the bench, getting Jesse's case dismissed. That night, Vicki pays a surprise visit to Rosie, claiming that her long-standing problem with Rosie is due to her getting the part Vicki coveted in a high school production of "Carousel." After Rosie and Vicki laugh about Rosie's bad performance, the women are finally able to make amends. Commercials deleted.
