HALLMARK HALL OF FAME: THE SEVENTH STREAM (TV)

Summary

One in this series of dramas presented by Hallmark. Set in Ireland in 1909, this drama focuses on Owen Quinn, a lonely fisherman who has kept to himself since the death of his wife five years earlier. He and his fishing partner, Willy, are inconvenienced when their former helper, Tomas Dunhill, suddenly quits and begins fishing for himself. Against his will, Owen comes to believe that Dunhill's newfound luck in fishing stems from his capture of the skin of a selkie, a seal that sheds its skin on land and becomes human. According to Irish legend, a selkie can only become human and/or go back to being a seal during the time of the seventh stream, when there are nine days in a row of high tides. The selkie must do the bidding of whoever has its seal skin. Taking the form of a beautiful young woman, the selkie begs Owen to help her retrieve her skin from Dunhill and return to the sea. Dunhill's blind father Eamon, who does not approve of his son's cruelty, hides the seal skin. The selkie, whom Owen names Mairead, no longer has to stay with Dunhill, but not knowing where her skin is she has no way to return to the sea. Owen takes Mairead into his home and soon falls in love with her. When the seventh stream returns, Eamon retrieves the skin, and Owen and Mairead must what is best for both humans and selkies. Includes commercials and promos. Also includes a message marking the fiftieth anniversary of the "Hallmark Hall of Fame" with Hallmark chairman Donald Hall.
