KING GIMP (TV)

Summary

This Academy Award-winning documentary chronicles thirteen years in the life of artist Dan Keplinger, who is afflicted with cerebral palsy. The program opens with Dan's mother Linda Ritter talking about her son's disease and how she decided not to institutionalize him as a child. Keplinger narrates the entire documentary starting at age twelve as he attends the special Ridge School before transferring to mainstream Parkville High School. There, Keplinger begins taking art classes and finds his purpose in life. He attends the senior prom and discusses his feelings on love. At age twenty, Keplinger attends Towson State University where he is mentored by noted artist Stuart Stein, and where he struggles to meet his professor Gagik's sculpture requirement. The program ends with Keplinger's graduation. This program is closed-captioned.
