Summary
The first of two programs on this tape. (Part twenty is
before part nineteen on this tape.) Part twenty of
twenty-five in this television adaptation of the classic
Chinese supernatural-fantasy novel, "Journey to The
West," written by Wu Chengen in the mid-1500s. This
adaptation follows the journey of the Tang monk Sanzang
and his three pupils, detailing their adventures with
monsters and gods as they travel to the Western Heaven
seeking the three higher Buddhist scriptures. In this
installment, Tang Sanzang and his three pupils (Sun
Wukong, Zhu Bajie, and Sha Seng) rescue the Queen of
Zhuzi. Part twenty begins with their arrival in the
country of Zhuzi, whose King has been very ill for three
years. While Sanzang goes to the palace to attain the
official border pass, his three pupils go to the market
to buy food, where they spend a long time browsing and
enjoying the scenery. Wukong sees a government posting
seeking a doctor to cure the King and takes it down.
Knowing that whoever takes down the posting must cure
the king, Wukong has no choice but to go to the palace.
There Wukong learns the real reason behind the King's
illness: three years ago his beloved Queen was
kidnapped by a monster known as Saitaisui. Wukong
finds Saitaisui and rescues the Queen. When Wukong is
about to kill the monster, the Goddess of Mercy comes to
reclaim the monster as her own pet and takes him away.
The Queen is reunited with her King, and the King is
immediately cured of his illness. With these events
behind them, the four travelers continue with their
journey to the West.
