SIX FEET UNDER: THE LAST TIME {SECOND SEASON FINALE} (TV)
Summary
One in this series about the Fisher clan, a loving -- if dysfunctional -- family struggling to maintain a sense of normalcy in the face of the stressful day-to-day operations of the eccentric family business, a funeral home in Los Angeles. In this episode, Aaron Buchbinder, the terminal cancer patient Nate's been spending time with, dies in the hospice. An inspector pays a surprise visit to the funeral home after receiving a complaint and cites a long list of infractions, forcing Nate and David to close the business for a while. Meanwhile, Claire attends her interview for LAC Arts, the arts college to which she's applying. Keith and David's relationship continues to be strained. After being suspended from work, Keith sends Taylor to live with his parents in San Diego -- without even consulting David. Brenda attends a group meeting for sex addicts, where she meets a fellow addict named Scott and gets a chance to open up about her feelings. After a medical examination, Nate's doctor tells him he must undergo a risky cranial surgery to alleviate problems associated with his condition, Arterio-Venous Malformation. Nate visits his daughter Maya for the first time, and finally opens up to Ruth about his medical condition. She's heartbroken that she is the last in the family to know. Federico, shocked that the funeral home might have to close, agrees with his wife Vanessa to use a portion of their recent inheritance to help keep things going. In exchange, he requests a partnership in the business, desperate to be more than an employee. Nate shares a poignant moment with David, as they realize that Nate might not survive this surgery. Later, Nate and Claire talk about relationships, including their own. Tired of Nikolai's indifference, Ruth quits her job at the flower shop. Nate visits Brenda, and they talk about their love and their feelings for each other. He tells her about his surgery, but refuses her offer to be with him at the hospital. On the day of Nate's operation, Claire and David smoke pot together and decide to veto their mother's decision that they go to Claire's high school graduation, instead deciding to be with Nate at the hospital. With the whole family waiting outside, Nate gets wheeled into the operating room.
