LAW & ORDER {LAW AND ORDER}: CRIMINAL INTENT: THE GOOD DOCTOR (TV)
Summary
One in this series of dramas -- a spin-off of "Law & Order" -- that deals with the investigation, arrest, and prosecution of criminals, but with a slight twist: each episode begins from the criminal's point of view as the actual crime is committed. This episode concerns a missing woman and the murder investigation of her physician husband. The episode begins with Dr. Peter Kelmer learning that his wife Valerie knows about his affair with Lisa Voight. Goren and Eames pick up the case with Kelmer arriving at their office to file a missing persons report on his wife. Goren talks to Valerie's friends and family as well as her psychiatrist, who all seem to think that Peter murdered her. A deli owner near Kelmer's building recalls seeing a woman that looked like Valerie, but because he is near-sighted he can't be certain. After talking to Kelmer's airplane mechanic, Goren and Eames learn of a "mystery flight" he took the day Valerie went missing. Meanwhile, Kelmer continues searching for his wife, assuring Lisa that he did not kill Valerie. A body is eventually found, but DNA samples do not match. Nevertheless, Goren leaks the findings to the newspaper which gets Kelmer to come in for some further questioning. Kelmer allows an apartment search where Goren and Eames discover that his bathroom has been repainted and the drain cleaned with industrial, medical cleansers. Without any tangible evidence, Carver believes they have no case. Goren assures him that if they take Kelmer to trial he will be convicted. At the trial, Goren takes the witness stand and goads Kelmer into having a public outburst, all but sealing his fate. Commercials deleted.
